Weather Resistance

When resins are exposed outdoors to sunlight and the elements, deterioration occurs in their appearance and mechanical and electrical properties.
The property that does not cause this degradation is generally referred to as “weather resistance”.

The main factors that cause deterioration are heat, light, and air (oxygen). However, there are various other factors as well, and it is believed that these factors act not alone but in combination to cause degradation.
Countermeasures can be broadly classified into two categories:
① “fundamental measures” to select resins that do not degrade according to the causative factors
② “symptomatic measures” to control the acceleration of degradation with UV absorbers or antioxidants.

In most cases, a combination of both measures is used.
We handle not only epoxy resins but also urethane resins and silicone resins. We propose products that demonstrate weather resistance in the right place and at the right time, depending on the customer’s anticipated use environment.
